Finding Coherence: AI, Craft, and Creative Freedom
Freewriting on AI and the maker's prejudice: creator, original, or regurgitation. Breath and the motion of ink, and a work that stays incomplete for most of its life before it comes out from hiding.
January 31st
I have not sat down to reflect on some things regarding my involvement with AI. Why would I if I enjoy it and it causes no harm. But like many artist at some point even the passion that led there will be brought to question and to judgement and that is where having many legs and strategies and the ability to quick pivot and adapt is key.
All this thinking gets all confusing and layered. Sometimes only through long breaths and marathon distance do they have chance to unwind and unpack. The barbell strategy. The long tail hedge. Doing what you love, honing a craft through the practice. Never giving up once you have found the path. Commit to the death on this one. Feed and grow with the skill. Come at it from different angles try new things but stand on solid foundation that is cared for. Built over time and revisited often. Tend to the weeds and love the soil food for beautiful life to blossom and to give the benthic creatures a place to build.
After everything and all these thoughts none of which is necessary it is nice to just come back to a known space. And putting on simple known constraints and trying to relax a bit. I'm noticing the feel of a game when rendering information to now ask human or not. But that seems just like asking creator original or regurgitation. The regurgitation is fine and even respected or perhaps expected. So why the prejudice to the machine. Isn't mind but a mere machine, an LLM of sorts. If you had a bunch of humans distorting the viewscape which is what we do than does it matter if machines are doing the same. This is likely a transition. The fear of some becoming less, well they already are and those who really put in the effort and do the work nothing changes with AI. There is more to know and do and go through.
For me it is to find coherence among my life's interests. To continue to create systems and do my practice. Sluice the mindstuff sample for where we are and how mineral rich the deposit might be we are cruising over. Our reference point: so inaccurate and yet with things like high technology the reference is at once lost and also made more dear. This time this freedom I give myself. Even freedom from burdensome thoughts. Just allowance to show up and make scribbles on the page. And see what comes of it and enjoy the moments of lightness holding pen and the motion of hand and arm as it moves across the page as many writers have done for centuries and that itself is a meditation of thought.
And breathing. Deep and easy enabling more flow and going with the motion of ink. Laying pipe. Brick by brick. With a deep breath I am able to continue to press on and I wonder at the deep dark blue of the ink like colors of the ocean and the stratos layers of sky.
There is a difference both to creator and those around them how art is done and what comes of it. Painting seemingly far more social than writing and acceptable. Or is it just an easier method it almost the same at a certain. Definitely more difficult to write. Almost an impossibility with other souls yelling and calling for attention. That is also when you can pivot and change focus. If your able to match closer to the energy do that. Otherwise switch internal energy as is required. Not to frustrate but should only right be allowed abilities to convey thought through line. And to balance recording. Now more slowly and thoughtful and deliberate the motion is with right. How right yearns to run free and put together words for the feel of it and to ride and never know what will be asked and to remain flexible, go with the currents and dance the waves.
Beautiful cresting, foamy froth salty and aqua green clear, waves you can look into. Breath into the line and give it beauty and space as you race across page in perpetual motion and at a sustainable pace riding the continuous current for as long as you can make it last all the while enjoying the speed and beauty of how everything look. Or annoyingly messy but however a work that will be complete always must be incomplete for most of its life before it comes out from hiding.
