Situational Governance
One constitution, many arenas, different instruments, bounded risk.
Situational Governance is a self-governance operating system: it applies the right internal rules and tools to the correct arena of life, at the correct intensity, so no essential currency is unnecessarily damaged. The whole thing compresses to one line: one constitution, many arenas, different instruments, bounded risk.
It exists because modern life is multi-arena. Family, work, markets, intimate relationships, public reputation, your own inner life: each runs different power flows, different risks, and different currencies, whether trust, money, attention, affection, or legitimacy. One style of conduct does not work everywhere. What you need is not a single playbook but a portfolio of them, plus the judgment to route correctly between them.
Most conflict and most powerlessness come from one error: applying the craft of one arena inside another. Using work-hierarchy tactics at home. Using intimate-relationship moves at work. Using market logic with people who are not a market. The fight feels impossible because you are governing the wrong room. That is not a strength problem. It is a routing problem, and routing is fixable.
Governance versus craft
The system turns on a distinction. Governance is the aim: who rules, by what authority, toward what end. It asks what kind of person you are choosing to be in this situation. Craft is the means: the least destructive, most effective way to enact that choice under the actual conditions. Governance without craft is brittle. Craft without governance is hollow. You need both, and you need to keep them straight.
The eight arenas
Underneath one unchanging Personal Constitution sit the arenas, each with its own currency, its own characteristic risk, and its own rules about whether you can even leave:
- Inner. Currency: attention and clarity. The arena you can never exit, and the foundation for the rest.
- Domestic. Currency: stability and calm. Governed by conservation, not persuasion.
- Intimate. Currency: trust. Influence without leverage; scorekeeping is the failure mode.
- Institutional. Currency: legitimacy. The classic domain of work and hierarchy.
- Market. Currency: capital and optionality. The risk is ruin. This is where Hansuru lives.
- Social. Currency: attention and reputation. The risk is identity capture.
- Kinship. Currency: duty and obligation. The hardest arena, because you cannot un-birth yourself; the relationship persists even in estrangement.
- Exit. The meta-arena for leaving the others. Its currency is optionality, and its rule is that exit is always legitimate.
The routing check, and tiers
Before responding to anything that carries a charge, you run a short check: which arena is this actually in, what currency is really at stake, who actually has authority here, what intensity is justified, and what is the smallest effective move. Intensity is set by tier, and most situations should never leave the baseline tier. The most common life error is acting at high intensity inside a situation that only called for the baseline: escalating the instrument without ever deciding the tier. Calm, here, is not passivity. It is the refusal to spend more force than the arena requires.
Where it sits
Situational Governance is Coherent Complexity applied to power and conduct.
