Decan 25: When the Hidden Star Teaches Vision
Ten days under Enif with the star hidden behind clouds until the last night: honey on the keyboard, a manuscript freed by turning it into a blog series, a 5am release, and a run that felt like joy.

On aspiration through volatility, and trusting a star you cannot see
Opening
Enif is the nose of Pegasus. Epsilon Pegasi, an orange supergiant about 690 light-years out, swollen to nearly two hundred times the width of the Sun. The light I was trying to see this decan left it around 1335, while Ibn Battuta was still walking across the Islamic world. Magnitude 2.4, orange, easy to find on a clear night.
There were not many clear nights. For nine of the ten, during a decan about vision, Enif was hidden behind cloud and rain. Not gone. Not dimmed. Just hidden. That became the teaching. The vision is there whether I can see it or not, and the work is to keep building toward it anyway.
What Is a Decan?
I track consciousness in ten-day cycles aligned with stars, adapted from the ancient Egyptian calendar. Thirty-six decans of ten days make 360, and five days outside time close the year. Each decan has a ruling star, a theme, and three phases: Initiate, Flow, Reflect.
Decan 25 belongs to Enif (Epsilon Pegasi) in Pegasus. The theme is aspiration and vision. November 15 through November 24, 2025.
For how this cycle came together, the three before it: Decan 22: Fomalhaut, Decan 23: Scheat, and Decan 24: Markab.

Initiate: Honey on the Keyboard (Days 1-3)
"There is honey on my keyboard lol. Worth documenting this moment. Signs of a full life lived."
That is how the decan started. Sticky chaos, not clarity. The move from Markab's foundations to Enif's aspiration was not clean. I finished the previous decan's post at three in the morning, left work half done that would need redoing, and learned carpentry from AI guidance while nearly getting a kickback off the saw. The bookshelf base got built anyway. The post went out. The work automation ran, bugs and all. None of it perfect. All of it forward.
Day two was sweet in a way I did not expect. A surprise date invitation. A server who was fully present, one of those rare people. Avi Loeb on a podcast about interstellar objects and black swans while I sat in the sauna. And then the dog. I wrote it down that night: the more I love her, the more meaningful it becomes, maybe that is what love is. It is all meaningful. It is all beautiful. Small amounts of attention and care, and the meaning that comes back is out of all proportion. That set the tone for what followed. The vision was never escape from love and responsibility. It was the freedom to be fully present without money stress bleeding into the people I love.
Day three tested it right away. The work marathon meant redoing everything. Family calls came back to back, and I could not process one before the next arrived. Headache. I decided I was done for the night. Clouds rolled in and Enif disappeared. The boundary was not giving up on the aspiration. It was protecting the capacity to keep after it. One stressor I can carry. Several stacked on each other are a different thing entirely, and spacing them is part of the design.

Flow: The Vision Shows Itself (Days 4-7)
Day four was the turning point, the day the clouds parted in my head even if they stayed in the sky. My first trade under the new system closed in profit, a small position opened into uncertainty and closed into a volatility spike. The barbell doing what it was built to do. But the money was not the breakthrough. What it stood for was.
I had been reading Nassim Taleb, and not only the trading. His life. How he made enough money to write however he wanted and say whatever he thought, without caring what the critics said, because he did not need their approval or their checks. That freedom became my aspiration. I wrote it down: "I became more and more interested in how this guy made it and has all the F-U money to write however he wants and say whatever he wants. That is appealing, that true freedom to be creative, and something I am now going after." Not wanting money for itself. Wanting enough of it that the creative work never has to answer to it.
The trading system settled in as a pillar that day. Let the system work, even through the losing stretches. Small losses while things are calm, larger gains when the disorder comes. Small positions, disciplined exits, real money with real consequences.
Day five the second breakthrough came by taking something away. AgentSpek, my manuscript on working with AI agents, had been stuck for months under a vague weight. It had to be a standalone book. It had to launch properly. It had to compete. In one conversation that dissolved. The manuscript becomes a blog series. No launch, just good chapters published one at a time on my own site, and compile them later if that makes sense. Nothing about the work changed. My estimate of what it required changed. I cannot control the book market or how readers respond. I can control writing the next chapter and putting it up.
And underneath that, the separation became clear. Do not ask the life work, the philosophical writing and the creative exploration, to pay the bills. Build a separate income system that supports it, so the writing can stay what it is.

Day six I woke up and wrote that the past two days had distilled my direction. Then, about the star itself: "Interesting that Enif has been literally hidden, cloud cover, rain, weather blocking the view. But I know it's there. Just like vision: sometimes obscured by conditions, but the star remains constant. The aspiration doesn't disappear because you can't see it. You must trust what you know is there and fulfill the vision anyway."
And the vision in one line: "I want the freedom to create however I wish. I don't wish to put things so close to my heart at the point of requiring them to create financial benefits. I need something to SUPPORT these efforts." The creative work is the end. Money is a tool. Mixing them up is the mistake. A second trade closed well that day, a short hold through continued volatility. I took the profit early and kept the discipline, which is the part that matters.
Day seven the tank was empty. Small things annoyed me far more than they should have, and dismissiveness from someone I love grated hard. But I caught it. "Grumpy, headphones on, trying to isolate so I don't bleed frustration onto someone who doesn't deserve it." No lecture, no punishment, no scene. A quiet boundary and some saved energy. We get most upset with the people we care about, because the connection is what we are invested in. Could I hold the aspiration with nothing left in me? Not perfectly. Consciously. That was good enough.

Reflect: Crisis, Recovery, the Star (Days 8-10)
Day eight was absurd. A production release at the day job: a database deployment, build failures, incident management. I stayed until five in the morning, slept three hours, and got called back. Then we were hosting an event. My partner was stressed getting ready, I was frustrated and wondering why we were doing something that made everyone miserable, and I just wanted the day over. So I said yes to it instead of resisting it. Once the setup was done I could finally exhale. The conversations were good. The second half of the day turned out well. Same event, different frame, a completely different day.
The strange part is how much personal work I shipped on no sleep. The blog grew, a manuscript chapter went up, email got wired in, sites deployed. The day-job release was the boulder, the kind of push that will come around again. The personal projects were creation, and they filled me instead of draining me. To create is to live twice.
That evening there was a family call with heavy decisions about someone older in the family. There is no fixing it. No solving aging. Support what can be supported, and let go of what cannot be controlled.

Day nine swung the other way. An hour in the steam sauna, then a run with sprints and dancing. From my notes: "Sprinted for several furlongs. Danced at times while running like a madman. State: Drunk with life joy. Sun was out. Beautiful landscaping and plants. Mountains in the distance. So fucking beautiful. Body fully alive and moving."
That is Sisyphus happy. No sun without shadow. The recovery would not have felt like that without the marathon the day before. Running is not productive. Dancing while running definitely is not. The mountains do not care whether I see them. All of it absurd, all of it beautiful. The vision is not only some future of creative freedom. It is also this, a body running in the sun between marathons.

Day ten the sky cleared. "Saw Enif clearly for the first time tonight, straight out from the porch door, high toward the west. The neck and nose of Pegasus finally visible. A supergiant hundreds of light-years away, meaning the light I'm seeing left that star hundreds of years ago."
Nine nights of cloud, one night of clear sky, and the star was there the whole time. Seeing it did not make it exist.
The time lag stayed with me. "Distance playing tricks with time, things already happened, but I'm seeing them now. This feels deeply connected to inverse thinking, convexity, and asymmetric risk management." Light that left Enif before the Black Death crossed that whole emptiness while empires rose and fell, while the atom split and we walked on the Moon, and it reached my eye on a porch in November. Markets have their own version of that delay, something already happened and the news of it has not reached you yet. I took it as an analogy to think with, not a law of physics. "Holding positions, having insurance, building multi-tier system, what a dream."
Looking back over the ten days, the vision was not out there waiting to be achieved. It was already in the work. Trades working, systems running, a manuscript freed, family present, and finally a star in the sky. Day ten was not arriving at the vision. It was recognizing what was already there.

What the Hidden Star Taught Me
The vision is there whether I see it or not. Nine nights without Enif did not mean no Enif. A trading system that is working does not always show it. A creative path can be clear long before anyone outside it notices. Build anyway.
Clarity came by subtraction. The manuscript was stuck for months and one change, a series instead of a book, freed it. I took the pressure away instead of adding force.
Recovery is real, and it can be sudden. The worst day of the decan was followed by the best one. Steam, movement, and some space were enough.
And love multiplies meaning. The point of the money is the freedom to be present, not the freedom to leave.
Transition to Alpheratz: From Vision to Liberation
When the clouds parted on day ten, the light reaching my eyes had left Enif centuries ago. Things already happened, and I was seeing them now. The vision was always there.
Next is Alpheratz, the star Andromeda and Pegasus share, and its teaching is liberation and empathy together. Which chains are mine to release, the forced monetization and the publishing pressure, and which belong to others, the aging and the family dynamics I cannot fix but can support. How to build freedom without losing connection. Liberation without empathy is isolation. Empathy without boundaries is burnout.
Enif taught me that vision exists whether you see it or not. Alpheratz asks what has to be released for it to move.
