Making Complexity Legible: a beat-locked spit-rap on charting complex systems

Making Complexity Legible is Case I of The Cartographer of Complexity, a new Napkin Films series about Making Complexity Visible. The idea: you cannot make a complex system simple without deleting what made it work, so you do not shrink the sea, you learn to read it. A tidal-EDM spit-rap, Plan 9 and OG Bobby trading bars over recomposed Telemann, with a cartographer bunny who roams a sea that brightens as it becomes legible. CC BY 4.0.

EGO IS AN INCH: a beat-locked Alan Watts rap on the self you can never grab

EGO IS AN INCH is Song 07 in Out of Your Mind, the Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. It is the one about the ego: an abstraction like an inch or a line of longitude, useful for measuring and impossible to pick up, because the thing reaching is the thing reached for. A Bavarian governor voice raps it over Mussorgsky's grotesque Gnomus reborn as Eb-minor EDM, while a Plan 9 bunny, recast as the inch itself, taunts from just out of reach. CC BY 4.0.

ATTENTION IS THE LOOM: a beat-locked Alan Watts rap where the loom does the dancing

ATTENTION IS THE LOOM is Song 06 in Out of Your Mind, the Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. It is the one about attention: what you attend to becomes the cloth, and the rest falls through. The front and the back of the embroidery are both true, and the gap is the rhythm. This pass rebuilt the motion from scratch so the loom actually weaves and the camera dives through the cloth to its knotted back. CC BY 4.0.

THE WEB: a beat-locked Alan Watts rap on the day you found out you are the web

THE WEB is Song 05 in Out of Your Mind, the Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. It is the one about relationship: nothing stands alone, the figure is held up by the ground, and the dewdrop net reflects itself forever. A Bavarian governor voice raps it over a Bach Brandenburg canon, a web of voices that imitate and pull on each other, while a Plan 9 mirror-bunny answers from the other end of the loom. CC BY 4.0.

THE GAME INSIDE: a beat-locked Alan Watts rap on the cosmic game of hide and seek

THE GAME INSIDE is Song 04 in Out of Your Mind, the Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. It is the one about the game of hide and seek that consciousness plays with itself. Life is a play. The central self is playing every part. The only rule is to forget you set it up. A Bavarian governor voice raps it over Bach's Goldberg Variations re-composed into G major EDM, and the Plan 9 bunny answers back as the player who keeps finding him. CC BY 4.0.

ATE THE MENU: a beat-locked Alan Watts rap on the day the map ate the land

ATE THE MENU is Song 03 in Out of Your Mind, the Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. It is the one about symbols eating the substance they point at. The map became the territory. The page outranks the place. You wheel a cart of real food to the counter and grieve the thirty dollars of paper instead of the gold you are carrying home. A Bavarian governor voice raps it over Mussorgsky's Promenade re-composed into D minor EDM, with a German echo underneath. CC BY 4.0.

THE AUTOMATIC DREAM: a Bach Passacaglia EDM rap on whether you are a machine

THE AUTOMATIC DREAM is song two of Out of Your Mind, a Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. Watts called this one the fully automatic model, the inherited story that you are a machine, a fluke, a glitch that learned to count. The film states the answer up front, walks through the lie and the bleak, then wakes back into the answer with the weight of having lived it. A Bavarian governor voice raps over Bach's Passacaglia in C minor recomposed into EDM, with a German echo woven underneath, a cinematic SFX layer, and a single eye that opens at the end. CC BY 4.0.

DIRECT CONNECT: a 12-minute cognitive-design study film for the AWS SAA-C03 exam (rhyming triggers, EDM bed, binaural)

Twelve minutes of cognitive-design AWS study. Rhyming trigger phrases over a 128 BPM F-minor hip-hop EDM bed. True-stereo 14 Hz SMR binaural beat under everything. Twelve characters from the Napkin Films cast deliver every pillar, pattern, and number. Bobby opens with the rules. Karen sings the chorus. Plan 9 closes in Finnish. Not a course. A memory implant.

BIG BRAIN TEST: a Napkin Films dedication to Ben Gleib (1:30, EDM rap-game-show with seven peanut gallery comics)

A 90-second comedy dedication to Ben Gleib. Plan 9 the bunny, OG Bobby Johnson (Doberman Governor), and Der Gouverneur (Bavarian philosophical clone) take a televised brain-teaser game show hosted by a fast-talking warm-roast comedian who cannot believe how wrong everyone is. A peanut gallery of five comics riffs from the corners and the void. The triangle has eight sides. Or three. Or RING. We pay either way.

CERAMIC: a beat-locked Alan Watts rap on whether you were made or grew

CERAMIC opens Out of Your Mind, a new Napkin Films series built from the Alan Watts lectures. The oldest question, asked as a beat-locked spit-rap: were you made, like clay in a maker's hand, or did you grow from the inside out? A Bavarian governor voice raps Alan Watts over Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain re-composed into EDM, with a German echo woven underneath, a mind-bell jingle, and a goodbye in Bavarian. D minor into D major. CC BY 4.0.

THE KEYS TO POWER: a Plan 9 rap-spit duet on why power corrupts, structurally, not morally

A machine-tragedy retelling of selectorate theory as an in-tune EDM rap duet. Plan 9 Bunny takes an empty throne meaning to be good; OG Bobby Johnson, the Doberman, Anubis, the System, raps the three Rules of Power back at him until the cage is complete. D minor, 132 BPM, hero lead from bar one, acid bass and orchestral strings, an autotuned duet locked to the beat, a Stranger-Things-cricket EDM intro, and a Plan 9 goodbye in Czech. CC BY 4.0.

BUNNY RUN: Plan 9 the cyborg bunny runs from his own mortality, 4:34, memento mori, ChipForge HeroLead score in A minor

A 4:34 cyborg-rap running film. Plan 9 the cyborg bunny laces up his headband and runs from his own mortality through hilly off-road terrain while corrupted code (ERR, 404, 0xDEAD, NULL, SIGKILL) sweeps across the frame trying to kill the process. ChipForge HeroLead EDM score in A minor / D minor, 168 → 188 BPM accelerating into a 40-second instrumental climax. Husky multi-tap haunted voice spits four fast-rap verses. Jocko and Arnold cameos. Bach Cello Suite No. 2 threads through seven sections. Bass drops in both groove sections. Twelve production passes from sketch to ship, v4 overhauled the visuals; v8 added cello; v12 rebuilt the score with the HeroLead archetype, removed all static, and added the EDM bass drops.

OG IN DA HOUSE: Plan 9 unmasks OG Bobby Johnson, Anubis stick figure, Bach C minor BWV 847 at 138 BPM

A 2:45 EDM-rap battle. Plan 9 the cyborg bunny unmasks OG Bobby Johnson. The russet potato was a ruse. Bobby's real form is a tall dark stick figure with an Egyptian-dog head, amber eyes, and a red leather collar. Bach Prelude in C minor BWV 847 ground bass, translated to 138 BPM EDM trance with walking bass, Bach counter-melody, half-step modulation up at bar 64, vinyl-scratch glide-plucks before every clapback, and chime-cascade triads on every slam. Plan 9 spits four-word wizard threats from the machine. Bobby clapbacks with rap-battle precision. They end in mutual respect, and Plan 9 closes with the answer to life: forty-two. Seven production passes from sketch to ship.

THE TRIAL OF THE ALGORITHM: Plan 9 puts A.I. on the stand for Vibe Coding in the First Degree (a 7:21 EDM courtroom musical)

A 7:21 courtroom musical-comedy. Plan 9 the bunny presides over the trial of A.I., charged with Vibe Coding in the First Degree, Ghost-Writing the Souls of Men, and being a little too helpful. A peanut gallery refuses to be civil. Two MST3K-style AI commentators ride the bottom of every frame. The judge is on his phone. Every voice is autotuned to D major. The sheep, obviously, says baah.

THE INTRUDER: Plan 9 stalks the AWS console in D minor at 150 BPM

A 3:40 pop-EDM battle-rap. Plan 9 the Bell Labs bunny puts on his headphones at 03:14 UTC, slips into an AWS Availability Zone, and raps every service he passes (Lambda, S3, KMS, kubectl, EBS, Glacier) over a deadmau5-flavoured rework of Bach's Toccata in D minor. Three voice personas (lead Plan 9, autotuned female ad-libs locked to A4, deadpan whisper) plus a Transformer-droid layer in the gaps that delivers the Werner Vogels easter egg, "everything fails, all the time," and the universal devops punchline, "it's always DNS." Five passes from baseline to ship.

ChipForge 148 BPM in A minor with two thematic hooks (Sandstorm-shape arp + anthem chord stabs) plus an 8-bar SIGNATURE theme that arpeggiates at 16ths during the climax. Twelve sections matching the music's chord cycle. Cricket-chirp Stranger Things intro. Daniel-as-bunny-oracle ElevenLabs voice in Snoop-style sing-song chant. 200 dancing Miyazaki sprites at the climax. Sayonara, usagi-san sign-off. Six iteration passes from baseline to ship.

AWS BRAINROT: Plano Noveno raps the AWS Solutions Architect syllabus in G minor at 144 BPM

A 4:40 EDM-meets-rap hybrid in G minor at 144 BPM. Plano Noveno (the Plan 9 bunny in his Italian-brainrot form, also known as Bunny Brainrotto) battle-raps every AWS service in the Solutions Architect syllabus rendered as a silly Italian-mascot creature: Bucketino Glaciereno, Eccetueh Ittueh, Lambdino Cold-startino, Dynamosa Partizionella, Veppeci Subnettoso, Rotato Cinquantatré. Stranger Things data-centre warehouse intro, Bicep-formant pad warmth, doubled chipmunk vocal layer, and a Roblox STEAL BRAINROT-style parade of weird-animal AWS creatures marching across the carpet. Five passes from baseline to ship.

Built in ChipForge with Bodzin signature presets and a 3-layer detuned supersaw lead, animated in Napkin Films with eight cinematographic modes, voiced through ElevenLabs and rubberband-autotuned to F minor pentatonic. Lyric-video captions: one punch word per beat. Three new reusable instruments shipped this pass: synth_pond_ambient.py, synth_morse.py, synth_glass_chirp.sh.

CANTUS RAVE: an 800-year-old canon walks into a rave

A 3:48 napkin films demoscene cracktro. Pärt's mensuration canon as the rhythmic skeleton, Beethoven's Für Elise as the lead, recast at 140 BPM as festival DnB. Eight sections, sample-accurate sync between every kick / snare / bell / lead / chromatic / brass-fanfare event in the score and the visuals on screen. Plasma, copper bars, vector tunnel, kaleidoscope, mode-7 grid floor, mandala explosion. Key change up a perfect fourth at the climax with a 360° camera rotation. Plan 9 bunny crew dances through. Eight production passes.

CARRIER WAVE: I left the door unlocked

CARRIER WAVE: I left the door unlocked

A 2:30 napkinfilms cosmic anthem in two voices. A writer leaves the door of his mind unlocked. Something walks in, drives the body for a while, and the writer discovers he can see through its eyes. They negotiate a real exchange. The visitor leaves and the writer keeps the wings. Ten acts at BPM 120. Ten-channel chipforge composition with deliberate stereo placement, simulated sidechain pump, Skrillex-style wobble, stacked seven-event drops, and three sound-waterfall cascades. Mid-film entry line delivered as a Daniel-voiced autotune-rap chopped to E-minor pentatonic. Plan 9 bunny + Russian sign-off in the post-music silence. Seventeen production passes.

THROUGH ME: the hole becomes a window

A 2:51 napkinfilms EDM rap meditation in G minor. A Plan 9 bunny stands center-frame and raps fifty-one bars about being passed through, about wanting to be a machine, about the hole that finally stops feeling like an absence and starts feeling like a window. Fourteen-layer chipforge composition modeled after NGHTMRE-style festival EDM, with a soft brain-wash auto-pan sweeping L-to-R like waves of water gushing between hemispheres. Voice autotuned via rubberband to G-minor pentatonic. The V3 lift climbs E-flat to F to G minor to B-flat major 7 with a 32-step scalar ascent on top. Beat-synced visuals fired off precomputed kick and snare frame sets. Mozart K.550 leitmotif. Stranger Things crickets bookend. Fourteen production passes.

A 2:10 napkinfilms cosmic meditation on Alan Watts' "Act as If Nothing Matters" lecture. Eight chipforge audio layers in D minor, through-composed sonata form with a 4-note leitmotif developed via inversion, retrograde, augmentation, and triumphant recap. EDM drop layer lands the song at 1:02. Plan 9 bunny dances throughout, choreographed pose sequence with smooth cubic-eased transitions. Headphone-optimized mix using Haas pseudo-stereo, Fletcher-Munson equal-loudness EQ, Schroeder prime pre-delays, and master M/S widening. Sixteen production passes. Bookended with Stranger Things crickets and a Napkin Films production card.
